The Purge Is Real
On June 22, 2026, OTF cut emissions to 64 subnets. Half the network went dark overnight. If you were staked in one of the subnets that lost emissions, your alpha is bleeding out right now with zero new TAO flowing in to support the price.
This wasn't random. The community saw it coming. Analysts have been manually checking subnet owners, GitHub repos, and break-even math for weeks — tracking which subnets are actually building versus which ones are just collecting emissions and dumping.
We automated all of it.
What We Built
Every 15 minutes, our system scans all 128 subnets across 5 red flag dimensions and computes a composite Red Flag Score:
| Red Flag | Weight | What It Catches |
|---|---|---|
| Emissions Cut | +30 pts | Subnet lost emissions in OTF's June 22 cut |
| Unproductive | +25 pts | Low miner activity, poor health score, no real output |
| No GitHub Activity | +15 pts | Zero commits in 30+ days — nobody is building |
| Owner Draining | +15 pts | Owner wallet has net outflows — collecting and dumping |
| Unnamed Subnet | +10 pts | Hasn't even bothered to name itself on-chain |
Score above 40? AVOID. Between 20-40? CAUTION. Below 20? BUILDING — the subnet shows real signs of life.
The Numbers: 48 Subnets Flagged AVOID
Out of 128 subnets scanned:
- 48 flagged AVOID — high red flag scores, multiple warning signals stacking up
- ~30 flagged CAUTION — mixed signals, worth monitoring but not comfortable
- ~50 flagged BUILDING — real development activity, healthy metrics
That means roughly 38% of all Bittensor subnets are ones you should actively avoid staking into right now. If you're picking subnets by name recognition or Twitter hype, the odds are working against you.
13 Subnet Owners Still Underwater
We also track owner break-even status. 18% of emissions go to the subnet owner automatically. Some owners have invested heavily into their subnet and haven't broken even yet. Others registered a slot for cheap and have been pure profit from day one.
The ones still underwater are interesting — they have skin in the game. They need the subnet to succeed. The ones who broke even months ago and are still draining? Those are the extraction plays.
Our Subnet Health Scanner tracks owner wallet flows for every subnet, so you can see exactly who's investing back and who's dumping.
Why Manual Analysis Can't Keep Up
Community analysts have been doing incredible work tracking subnet fundamentals by hand. Manually checking GitHub repos, owner wallets, miner counts, break-even math — one subnet at a time. That kind of due diligence is exactly right.
The problem is scale. 128 subnets. Owner wallets change daily. GitHub repos get commits (or don't) constantly. Emissions shift every tempo. By the time you've manually reviewed 20 subnets, the first 10 have changed.
We took every signal these analysts check manually and automated it:
- GitHub activity — commits, authors, stars, days since last push for 107 repos
- Owner wallet tracking — net TAO flow direction for all 128 owner coldkeys via TaoStats transfer API
- Miner participation — active miners, earning miners, fill rate, earning ratio
- Price trajectory — 7-day and 30-day alpha price changes
- Break-even calculator — how much TAO the owner has earned vs. invested
- Emission status — which subnets still receive emissions after OTF's cut
- Liquidity depth — TAO in the pool, trade volume, buy/sell ratio
All of it updates every 15 minutes. No manual work. No spreadsheets. Just data.
How to Use This
Two pages, both free:
- Red Flag Report — Every subnet ranked by red flag score. See exactly which flags are raised and why. The AVOID list is at the top.
- Subnet Health Scanner — The full health score breakdown: miner participation, GitHub activity, owner wallet flows, price trajectory, and more.
Before you stake TAO into any subnet, check both. If a subnet shows up as AVOID on the Red Flag Report and has a low health score, that's your signal to stay away.
The Bigger Picture
OTF cutting emissions to 64 subnets is the start, not the end. The network is getting serious about accountability. Subnets that collect emissions without building products, without maintaining code, without retaining miners — they're on borrowed time.
The data we're tracking will tell you which ones are next before the market prices it in. That's the whole point of this tool.
We're not here to tell you what to buy. We're here to make sure you don't buy something that's about to get killed.
