The Institutional Wave
A major finance publication just released an in-depth paper arguing that TAO is the Bitcoin of AI. The thesis is being backed by some of the biggest names in crypto and venture capital.
Who's Backing Bittensor
Barry Silbert — Founder of DCG
The man who backed Bitcoin, Ethereum, Zcash, and Coinbase early. He launched Yuma, an entire subsidiary dedicated exclusively to accelerating Bittensor. In his own words: he invests in projects with "100x, 500x, and 1,000x type return opportunities." He believes TAO is one of those.
Jason Calacanis
The investor who turned $25,000 into $100 million on Uber. He put close to $1 million of his own money into TAO and is calling for a 200x return in 5-10 years.
Rob Greer — Stillcore Capital
Managing a dedicated Bittensor fund for family offices and sovereign wealth funds. Targeting a $1 trillion TAO market cap by 2030. His comparison: "TAO in 2026 is Ethereum in 2016 and Bitcoin in 2013."
NVIDIA + Polychain
Invested hundreds of millions into the Bittensor ecosystem.
The Core Argument
Bitcoin miners generated $70 billion in revenue in 2025, consuming 175 terawatt-hours of electricity (equivalent to all of Poland). The computation produces nothing beyond "transaction confirmed."
Bittensor asked: what if mining solved real problems? Instead of burning compute on arbitrary math, Bittensor pays miners to produce machine intelligence — inference, training, data, predictions.
Why Now?
- Targon (SN4) cracked decentralized encrypted compute with Intel — enterprises can now trust decentralized AI
- Covenant 72B — largest decentralized LLM training ever, acknowledged by NVIDIA CEO
- Video OS — subnet partnering with Paramount, Universal, Sony, Netflix
- Subnets hiring from OpenAI, Google DeepMind — top AI talent flowing in
- First halving compressing supply while demand accelerates
The Risk
Decentralized AI is not guaranteed to win. The thesis requires that decentralized compute, inference, and training become important enough that enterprises adopt it. But the signals — Intel partnerships, NVIDIA backing, $43M Q1 revenue — suggest the direction is clear.
The Bottom Line
When a billionaire who backed Bitcoin at $12, Ethereum before smart contracts mattered, and Coinbase before it IPO'd says he sees 100-1,000x potential in Bittensor — that's not noise. That's signal.
